Chairman

Suman Gautam is the chairman and one of the founders of Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS). He is a faculty member at Department of Physics Prithvi Narayan Campus.  In this role, he serves as an adviser to science community and represents the science to community through Research, Education and Advocacy.

He received M.Sc. Physics from Tribhuvan University with major Solid State Physics concentrated on the study of Density functional Theory to study Energy of ions. He has completed the Short Course on Space weather from Physics Research Laboratory (PRL) India. He has mentor the undergraduate’s project works on the search of isolated nebular structure in IRAS map and the analysis of space weather data obtained from SOHO LASCO CME catalog. He is engaged in the outreach programs conducted by the organization like the astronomy for the visually impaired students and attend numerous workshops conferences and seminars.

He was one of the recipients of Emerging Space Leader (ESL) in 2015 awarded by International Astronautical Federation (IAF).

Project Coordinator

Mahesh Thakuri is working as project co-coordinator and one of the founders of PAS. He is a student of M.Sc. in Physics with major Astrophysics at Tribhuvan University and freelance teacher of Physics and

Mathematics. He has conducted many astronomy outreaches and given talks on the importance of science and astronomy to school students and general public. He coordinates and conducts workshops and trainings programs like Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP), Water Rocket Competition, Global Astronomical Month, Yuri’s Night Space Party, Solar Observation and Night Sky Observation. He is now reaching thousands of students with different proceedings to popularize astronomy and space science generating interest for school students to pursue higher education in science. He frequently gives talks, advocates and helps different government and other organization to promote scientific programs to increase science literacy rate in our country. He believes it is the time for developing country to invest in the space sector for the better future of its economy and international corporation play important role in it.”

He was one of the recipients of Emerging Space Leader (ESL) in 2016 awarded by International Astronautical Federation (IAF).

Program Coordinator

Sabin Gautam, working as an Amateur Astronomer at Pokhara Astronomical Society (PAS). He is a M.Sc. Physic students at Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

As a program coordinator, He had a good working experiences on preparation program draft and its execution part as our schedule and target group. Especially, he has very good command on identification of object at Night sky and Telescope handling. He is the person who initiate concept of  Astro-Tourisms in Nepal.

Research Coordinator

Raj Kumar Pradhan has been a research coordinator at the Pokhara Astronomical Society since 2017. He is working as a resource person and guiding students from B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Physics. His main research focuses on the dynamics of the Galactic halo and galaxy formation. His graduation research explores how metal-rich and metal-poor  subsamples of the MSTO, KG AND BHB halo stars show different kinematical motions in our home Galaxy. The stellar halo encodes important information about the origin of the galaxy formation. He has worked with different research groups of the world as a collaborator.

His field of research is broad, particularly he searches for the hypervelocity of the stars and observes the dynamics of Globular clusters.

He received a master’s degree in physics from Tribhuvan University in 2018. As the thesis supports, he received the award-grants from the BPKMPOSMDB, the Ministry of Education and Science & Technology and the University Grants Commission. He was a fellow of the SITARE-IUCAA-Southampton-2019.

Occasionally, he want to go hiking and enjoy the moment with nature. He likes to sketch and paint in his free time.

Mr. Pradhan’s field of research interests:

— Stellar halo, dark matter halo

— galaxy evolution

— Globular Cluster
